The Advanced Text series is designed for students taking advanced-level courses, including upper-level undergraduates and graduate students. Titles in this series will also be invaluable to researchers new to a field, and to established researchers as a basic reference text.
Molecular Biology of Cancer, Second Edition, is now in a larger format and has been extensively revised. It covers heredity cancer, microarray technology and increased study of childhood cancers. It continues to provide a detailed overview of the processes, which lead to the development and read.freeduan.com proliferation of cancer cells, as well as the techniques available for their study. The book also describes the means by which tumor suppressor genes and oncogenes may be used in the diagnosis and in determining the prognosis of a wide variety of cancers, including breast, genitourinary, lung and gastrointestinal cancer.

RT-PCR Protocols, 2nd Ed

RT-PCR Protocols, 2nd Edition
Humana Press | ISBN: 1607616289 | edition 2010 | PDF | 330 pages | 14 mb

Once a tedious, highly skilled operation, reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) has become a routine and invaluable technique used in most laboratories. In RT-PCR Protocols, Second Edition, expert researchers fully update the technologies presented in the popular previous edition, such as competitive RT-PCRnested RT-PCR, RT-PCR from single cells, and RT-PCR for cloning. In addition, newer technologies are also explored, including multiplex RT-PCR, RT-LATE-PCR, and the greatly advanced field of real-time quantitative RT-PCR, while recent advances in creating the optimum RT-PCR reaction, e.g. RNA extraction, primer design, and reverse transcription, end the book with their indispensable input. Written in the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series format, chapters include brief introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step, readily reproducibleprotocols, and notes sections, highlighting tips on troubleshooting and avoiding

Structural Aspects Of Protein Synthesis

Image

Description: This comprehensive and highly illustrated book provides a basic and up-to-date summary of translation on bacterial ribosomes, with emphasis on the structural insights. It is an attempt to present the ribosome and its functional activities in a coherent manner. Two types of illustrations are used to describe the translation field: simplified black-and-white illustrations to depict aspects of translation and color plates to give correct structural representations. The book presents essentially all aspects of the translation system, focusing on the relation between structure and function. Upper level undergraduates and graduate students with an interest in protein synthesis will find this lecture notes volume invaluable. The book is also an essential source of information for researchers who want to get an overview of translation.

# ISBN / ASIN: 3540241663
# EAN: 9783540241669
# Manufacturer: Springer

Description:
Bioinformatics as a discipline arose out of the need to introduce order into the massive data sets produced by the new technologies of molecular biology: large-scale DNA sequencing, measurements of RNA concentrations in multiple gene expression arrays, and new profiling techniques in proteomics. As such, bioinformatics integrates a number of traditional quantitative sciences such as mathematics, statistics, computer science and cybernetics with biological sciences such as genetics, genomics, proteomics and molecular evolution.
In this comprehensive textbook, Polanski and Kimmel present mathematical models in bioinformatics and they describe the biological problems that inspire the computer science tools used to handle the enormous data sets involved. The first part of the book covers the mathematical and computational methods, while the practical applications are presented in the second part. The mathematical presentation is descriptive and avoids unnecessary formalism, and yet remains clear and precise. Emphasis is laid on motivation through biological problems and cross applications. Each of the four chapters in the first part is accompanied by exercises and problems to support an understanding of the techniques presented. Each of the six chapters of the second part is devoted to some specific application domain: sequence alignment, molecular phylogenetics and coalescence theory, genomics, proteomics, RNA, and DNA microarrays. Each chapter concludes with a problems and projects section, to deepen the reader's understanding and to allow for the design of derived methods. Many of the projects involve publicly available software and/or Web-based bioinformatics depositories. Finally, the book closes with a thorough bibliography, reaching from classic research results to very recent findings, providing many pointers for future research.Overall, this volume is ideally suited for a senior undergraduate or graduate course on bioinformatics, with a strong focus on its mathematical and computer science background.

  biotechnology-procedures-and-experiments-handbook

Biotechnology is one of the major new technologies of the twenty-first century that covers multi-disciplinary issues, including DNA techniques, cloning, genetics, and the application of microbiology to the production of goods. It continues to revolutionize the treatments of many diseases, and it is used to deal with environmental solutions. The Biotechnology Procedures and Experiments Handbook provides practicing professionals and biotechnology students over 150 applied, up-to-date laboratory techniques and experiments related to modern topics such as recombinant DNA, electrophoresis, stem cell research, genetic engineering, microbiology, tissue culture, and more. Each lab technique Includes: 1) a principle, 2) the necessary reagents, 3) a step by step procedure, and 4) a final result. Also included is a section that shows how to avoid potential pitfalls of a specific experiment.
